A production of excellence
By Kirthi Sri Karunaratne
Reebon Miss. Sri Lanka 2007 for Miss. Universe produced and choreographed by Graham Hatch was of universal standards and held the attention of the onlookers with the parades of the beauties, the music song and dance.
Specially effective was the swim suit parade, with the girls chaperoned by muscular youths in sequinned wrap over sarongs for the glitz and glamour such an event calls for.
A formidable set of Judges arbitrated on the final choice of Aruni Rajapakse as the winner, who more or less was sure of the title if one was to gauge by the number of mini titles she won. The final evening dress segment was delightfully glamourous when the girls wore gowns designed and created by Micheal Wijesuriya, who did variations on a theme with great success.
The first runner up Maria Fernando oozed with confidence, specially at the brief interview of the five finalists. The sparkle and dazzle of such an event was added to by the many women in the well dressed audience, among whom were the Miss. Sri Lanka for Miss. Universe Jacqueline Fernandsz, who looked divine when she joined the five finalists on the ramp in readiness to sash and crown the new Miss. Sri Lanka in the international traditional style, and Miss. Sri Lanka for Miss World 2006, Danielle Kirkoven who looked the embodiment of a fashion model.
Among the judges were Ramani Fernando in a saree, Rozanne Diasz looking like a million dollars with the flush of her oncoming motherhood, and the wife of the Ambassador for the United States, Sophia Blake in a black dress on fetching feminine lines. via ML
