What to discuss at SAARC

We Sri Lankans welcome to our country all heads of SAARC countries to attend the forthcoming SAARC Summit, especially the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, due to the following reasons:
(1) In our country human rights violations exceed 90%.
(2) Those belonging to the minority communities are harassed, threatened and abducted with demands of heavy ransoms allegedly by government-sponsored thugs.
(3) Innocent people belonging to the minority communities are arrested early in the morning in their nightclothes and videoed.
(4) Journalists who expose corruption either in the forces or in government are either arrested and held in detention for long periods without charges, or killed by government goons.
(5) Government ministers openly threaten journalists.
(6) Indiscriminate bombing of civilian areas in the north by the air force — perhaps this is the only government that bombs its own citizens.
(7) Tiger suicide cadres attack innocent Sinhalese people.
(
The government TV stations do not give a chance to the opposition to telecast their views.
(9) Former terrorist leader Karuna was given a false passport allegedly by the government to go to the UK. Karuna himself has admitted this to a UK court.
Hon. heads of states kindly take up these matters for discussion with the Sri Lankan President, especially the Indian Prime Minister.
Please do not make the SAARC Summit a joke!

The government is going to have a tamasha under the name of SAARC, while the Tamil people are suffering even without basic necessities.

From the original amount of Rs. 2.8 billion, the Govt. expenditure had risen to Rs. 5.1 billion. Apart from the Rs. 2.8 billion tabled in Parliament, the Govt. has spent an additional amount of Rs. 2.1 billion for import of super luxury vehicles. This is criminal waste of money to host a bunch of jokers with our joker President.

SAARC Summit is merely an annual ritual…a ritual without substance. But do you honestly think that India can take up civil rights violations for discussion with the Sri Lankan government? I guess the humiliation of inviting and then kicking out the IPKF is still fresh among Indians. Why do the people of other South Asian countries expect India to correct the national flaws of member states, when their own citizens and political opposition are so helpless? Did Indians ask for assistance on internal political problems during the New Delhi Summit in 2007? Neighbors view India’s involvement as interference and non-involvement as negligence.
Though SAARC operations are in urgent need of renewal, any move aimed at involving any member country in the internal politics of the other would be a disaster!

SAARC causes Tea market to crash
This week fall in prices have already had intense repercussions in all sectors of the tea industry. Losses expected during build up to the South Asian Association for Regional Corporation, SAARC, conference to be held in Colombo 26th July through 4th August, have already had their telling effects on the tea market.

Never has any Govt. caused such suffering on its own people to host a SAARC summit like this Rajapakse regime. Finally, what benefit is going to accrue to the people? After all a Govt. is elected for the welfare of the people, not for its own selfish welfare or wasteful experiments.
