Nazly Cassim says… Recently there was a news item in an English newspaper that in order to minimise the wastage of fuel the Minister of Transport intends to introduce a new concept of having only three bus halting places within a distance of one kilometer.
Why this beautiful arrangement Sir? Is it for you all to survive in the jumbo cabinet enjoying all the perks attached to it, which is a heavy burden to the common man? The high cost of living has already pushed us towards starvation and by getting us to walk long distances do you want to tire us further and hasten our journey to the grave?
Have you not realized the following too causes wastage of fuel?
1. During VIP movements every few minutes on highways and all other connected roads, traffic including buses are held up for more than 30 minutes.
2. More than 10 fuel guzzling back up vehicles follow each VIP.
3. Buses waiting at bus halts for over 15 minutes with their engines running to collect passengers, despite the bus being loaded.
4. Damaged and badly neglected roads making vehicles move at snail’s space.
5. Permitting the import of hundreds of vehicles (many of them duty free) without prior checking of their standards and documents.
5. Street lights burning during day time on highways and by-roads, wasting fuel for generation of electricity.
After all, we pay for the so called ‘waste of fuel’ for our requirements and also for your and your government’s electricity consuming tamashas by paying unrealistic fuel taxes.
Therefore, please do not engage in doing absurd things that will push the already burdened people into further difficulty.
Last but not the least — the more the waste, the more the sale, the more the sale, the more the tax. So enjoy yourselves till this government is thrown out of power.
