UNP M.P. Gayantha Karunatileke said that the United National party at the well attended special convention held recently in Kandy, made a resolution that the time has come for all to come together as one unit burying party politics, and agitate against this fiasco of a Govt. which has muddled up the country’s economy; development; peace and harmony; education and the people ‘s lives in every aspect.

In short, this Govt .which started from nowhere giving false promises and pledges (at elections) is now fast heading there!, he exclaimed. In pursuance of the Kandy resolution, the UNP is commencing a campaign of agitation on the 09th of July to force the Govt. to halt its undemocratic, blundering, corrupt and deceitful activities against the Media and people who elected it to power; and to hold a general election to suit people’s interests without wasting people’s money on manipulated fragmented elections to suit its dubious goals. This agitation campaign on 9th July is organised by the Colombo Central Chief Organiser and M.P. Mohomed Mahroof with the UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the chief Guest.

The impending workers’ strike scheduled for the 10th of July is also aimed not to win votes, but to win the demands of the workers against the Govt. . . . Hence, this is the time for all workers to show their solidarity with the UNP casting away party differences, he Added.

But for the war, this Rajapakse Bros. and Govt. would have long perished, as, all the problems in the country of which the Govt. itself is the architect; it has a ready made excuse to the people’s misery -the war. These thoththa babas of the Govt. are saved by Prabha of North through this mutually destructive war, he exhorted.

This Govt. is refusing to grant the justifiable demands of the struggling workers; but, it has money to spend 2000 million on the SAARC conference; billions on untimely, uncalled for elections; maintain a largest Cabinet of Ministers in the World and over 100 Presidential advisors; and waste billions of rupees of people’s money on white elephant projects like the MihinAir, he lamented.

It is therefore little wonder that Sri Lanka is now placed among the ‘Failed States’, and globally criticised for its alarming human rights violations and Media persecution, he asserted.
