Lankan Girl Wins Silver Medal for Yang Ming’s one of the world’s leading container transportation companies recently announced the winners of its 1st International Children’s Painting Contest featuring paintings of scenery of hometown seas, coasts, rivers, lakes, ports, and fishing villages. This worldwide competition drew attention from 4,500 international contestants spanning 36 different countries, between the ages 4 and 15.
Reviewed by 18 professional art judges, the paintings qualified 10 Gold medal holders, 20 Silver medal holders, 30 Bronze medal holders, and 100 honourable mentions.
Amongst the Silver medal winners is 14 year old Raihana Riyaz of Asian International School, who won appreciation for the beautiful painting of a fishing village.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this competition. I never imagined that I will achieve this medal, but I now understand that I would never have realized my potential and skill for drawing had I not tried” commented Raihana.
“Through this achievement, I want to encourage all children of Sri Lanka that regardless of winning or losing, to play the game with all your heart, aiming high, giving it your best” she continued. The aim of the Yang Ming International Children’s Painting Contest is to encourage children of the world to discover the significance of marine ecology and its important contribution to civilization.
Pership Group Asha Shipping Ltd has been the Sri Lankan agent for Yang Ming since 1987.
