Sanath jayasuriya smoked 115 from just 101 balls including 4 sixes – The Clip

The West Indies lost by 113 runs to Sri Lanka. Chasing Sri Lanka’s 303, West Indies were bowled out for 190.

The West Indies were never in the game as Sanath Jayasuriya helped Sri Lanka to a total of 303 for five with an imposing 115.

The tournament hosts, already beaten by Australia and New Zealand, now have to produce their highest tally of the competition so far if they are to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat which would leave their semi-final hopes in serious doubt.

Jayasuriya, who hit 10 fours and four sixes as he struck 115 in 101 balls, was ably supported by captain Mahela Jayawardene who made 82 as the pair put on 183 for the third wicket.

In the process the 37-year-old Sri Lankan overtook Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq to become the second highest run scorer in one day cricket after Sachin Tendulkar.

Sri Lanka: LTTE Bus Bomb explosion kills 15 in Ampara

By Walter Jayawardhana

TAMIL TIGERS KILL 15 IN A BUS BOMB AND INJURE 25 MORE IN SRI LANKA’S TROUBLED EASTERN PROVINCE

At least thirteen civilians including two children and an army soldier and a policeman were killed when the liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam terrorists exploded a bus bomb inside a civilian bus in the country’s troubled Eastern Province.

A spokesman for the Ampara General Hospital said 15 dead bodies of the blast victims are in the hospital which is 220 miles East of Colombo.

“The bomb was planted inside the bus. The dead included 10 women, 2 children and three men — one of those a policeman and another a soldier,” said a member of the elite police commando Special Task Force, asking not to be named.

Military spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe said the bus bomb was exploded at 12.10 p.m. when the bus reached Konduwatuwan Sri Lanka Army security check point, April 2.

The bus had stopped at a military checkpoint and most of the passengers were taken off while troops searched the bus. The bomb went off as the soldiers were carrying out their search, Samarasinghe said. The bomb had been hidden inside the bus and the soldier was one who was examining the bus, according to the initial information. Otherwise, it could have been a suicide bomber who was still seated inside the bus and triggered off the bomb when the inspection started, it was speculated.

According to the initial information among the dead were more females since many men were out of the bus at the time of the blast.

The sources said twenty five other severely injured passengers were rushed to the Ampara General Hospital.

The head of the Ampara hospital, Dr.Lankathilaka Jayasinghe, said the injured were still being rushed to the region’s main hospital.

“Three people were dead on admission and 12 others died in hospital,” Jayasinghe said, adding that 25 more people were undergoing treatment.

The bus was plying on Ampara-Badulla road towards Bibile when the explosion occurred. The Army sources said the bomb has been triggered inside the bus.

As the Tamil Tigers were evacuated from their occupied areas by military means they have been restricted to few jungle strips and have beeen attacking civilians by artillery fire and killed eight Tamil civilians.

Thereafter, LTTE gunmen on April 1, took eight civilian ethnic Sinhalese construction workers who were building Tsunami houses at Mailambaveli in Eravur in the same province and shot them in execution style. Six of them died on the spot. Two were admitted to the hospital with gun shot injuries.

The series of civilian killings inside the country came after suspected LTTE gun men killed five Tamil Nadu fishermen while they were fishing in the seas just to strain relations between India and Sri Lanka on the eve of the SAARC summit in New Delhi. The Indian Navy said the the Tamil Tigers are prime suspects for the killings.

By Walter Jayawardhana

SEVENTEEN LTTE FRENCH LEADERS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AND THEIR PARIS OFFICES INCLUDING THOSE OF FRONT ORGANIZATIONS AND KOVIL SEALED

The French Police took into custody 17 leading members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) French branch and sealed their office and those of front organizations in Paris under the orders of the anti-terrorist judge Jean-Louis Bruguiere.

Among those who were taken into custody was the leader of the LTTE in Paris, Parithy, who is considered to be a close confidante of the outfit’s leader Velupillai Prabhakaran. The French sector of the Sri Lankan separatist organization is being investigated under anti-terrorism laws of the European Union.

Prabhakaran’s LTTE who are also known as Tamil Tigers depended heavily on its Paris sector for hard cash, since allegedly it collected millions of Euro dollars from the 70,000 strong Tamil expatriate community through voluntary contributions and mostly by alleged extortions, Police sources in Paris said. The arrested LTTE leaders, are suspected of boosting up their efforts to collect funds by extortion, violence and detentions in their fundraising activities in recent times that has resulted in more Tamils making many complaints to the law enforcing authorities, sources in Paris said.

Reports from Paris said apart from its main office at Paris 20, the Paris office of the front organization, Tamil Rehabilitation Organization(TRO) that collects money purportedly for charity, TTN Television station and the Hindu Temple called Amman Kovil run by the LTTE for a constant flow of income were closed down April 1 and sealed.

Police entered those premises, and examined computers, documents and paper files for evidence before removing them for examination. All places have been raided simultaneously, the reports said.

The Sri Lankan terrorist group last year allegedly collected about eight million US dollars (six million Euro dollars) from the Tamil Diaspora. The terrorist Division of the French Police is investigating accounts showing how that money was spent.

The Anti-terrorist Division of the Interior Ministry, (Sous-direction antiterroriste – SDAT) is conducting the investigation into the LTTE in Paris which is known as the Tamil Coordinating Committee at the address, l situé 341 rue des Pyrénées.

The French Police received complaints that each family was under constant pressure to pay 2000 Euro Dollars annually and every Tamil owned business was charged 6000 Euro Dollars annually by the so called Tamil Coordinating Committee to run Prabhakaran’s war in Sri Lanka.

FAKE PASSPORTS SUSPECTED TO BE ISSUED BY THE LTTE SPRING UP AT DIFFERENT PLACES IN THE WORLD

Three Sri Lankans who were thought to be getting ready to travel with fake Australian passports supplied by a racket organized allegedly by the Liberation tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were arrested by the Immigration office in Pattaya, in Thailand.

The tip that these three Sri lankans were getting ready to travel to New Zealand with the fake Australian passports was given to Police Colonel Itipon, the Chief of Pattaya’s office by the Australian Embassy in Bangkok, the Pattaya City News, revealed.

The information received from the embassy said, according to Pattaya News, the passports were part of a major racket, and the Sri lankans were to possess them, were living in Pattaya with the intention of moving to Phuket where they were waiting to be obtained by them.

Earlier investigations show LTTE has entered into the production of fake passports and stolen blank passports from various government offices in different capitals of the world and sell them to people willing to travel mostly to obtain jobs as a major income for the insurgent group mainly for the procurement of arms. In Sri Lanka, working with some travel agents, Sri Lankans searching for foreign jobs are sent, by agents of the LTTE, to Bangkok as a transit point and from there to various destinations in industrialized countries. Large sums are being charged for this service.

Pattaya News said, “There was also a suspicion that each man had entered Thailand illegally and did not have visas in their existing passports. The group was expected to travel to New Zealand where they would be able to find work with their fake passports. Immigration Officers tracked the three men to the Thompson House Apartments in Soi Beokeow where the three were arrested and found to be carrying passports with no visa stamps.”

The newspaper further said, Mr. Somaratane Kanishka Manoj aged 33, Mr. Arumugam Navaratnom aged 30 and Mr. Nadarajan Prasat aged 26 were taken to the Immigration Office in Soi 5 Jomtien Beach Road and will now be prosecuted in accordance with Thai law. Further investigations into others involved in the fake passport operation is still ongoing, the report added.

Meanwhile two passengers who managed to board an Air France flight from the Chennai Airport in Tamil Nadu and reached Paris during the previous week were found to be with two fake passports.

Reporting on the incident the Hindu newspaper of March 28 said, “Preliminary investigation revealed they were in possession of different passports and used these for booking tickets and completing the check-in formalities. Officials had traced the travel agent through whom the tickets were booked.

“A senior Immigration officer said both the passengers had destroyed their passports and other documents during transit. This clearly indicated they had used fake documents to book the tickets as well as to check-in”

Investigations in the United States have revealed that the LTTE agents who supply the fake passports to paid clients instructs them to tear the passports and dump them in airplane toilets and request them to apply for asylum when they reach ports of entry. From there the clients are taken to a refugee camp and there LTTE hired Tamil lawyers come and take over their immigration cases as asylum seekers.

Sanath Jayasuriya’s century powered Sri Lanka to a crushing 113-run victory over West Indies

Sanath Jayasuriya’s century powered Sri Lanka to a crushing 113-run victory over West Indies in their World Cup Super Eights match in Guyana.

West Indies, beaten by Australia and New Zealand in their opening two matches, no longer have their destiny in their own hands and are relying on other results going their way if they are to have hope of reaching the semi-finals.

Jayasuriya, who hit 10 fours and four sixes as he struck 115 in 101 balls, was ably supported by captain Mahela Jayawardene who made 82 as the pair put on 183 for the third wicket.

Sri Lanka finished on 306 for five and the West Indies never recovered from the early losses of Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and captain Brian Lara as they fell to 42 for three.

Guyanese pairing Shivnarine Chanderpaul (76) and Ramnaresh Sarwan (44) put on a 92 partnership but their run-rate was too slow to leave the lower order with any real chance of making the target and the last seven wickets went for 56 runs – Jayasuriya completing a fine day with three wickets.
