Minister Badurdeen said Resettlement of displaced families in Vakarai will commence today
Resettlement of displaced families in Vakarai due to terrorist hostilities will commence today.
Minister of Resettlement, Rishard Badurdeen said the resettlement will take place under three phases. 15,978 persons in 4,044 families are currently displaced.
The Minister stated they will be compensated to rebuild their houses. The compensation will be granted according to a valuation carried out by the Housing Development Authority. Several projects will be launched under the Jathika Saviya programme to strengthen the income level of resettled families.
Minister Badurdeen told that free medical facilities and electricity will be provided to these families according to instructions of the President. Measures are underway to enhance infrastructure and education facilities in the area.
The Sri Lanka security forces have fully consolidated the Vakarai area and de-mining activities have already been completed in several cleared areas. The government will distribute dry rations for a period of one month following the resettlement.
The Minister underlined the resettlement activities in Trincomalee district will commence soon. Meanwhile, the displaced sheltered in temporary centers in Batticaloa have also expressed willingness to return to their villages
