18th amendment in parliament tomorrow

The 18th amendment is to be presented to the parliament tomorrow (6th) by the Minister of Justice Mr. Amarasiri Dodangoda. According to Mr. Dodangoda the amendment on Court of Appeal is of immense importance to decentralize the judicial services, which would save the people from traveling to Colombo whenever there is a law suite.

Among the new amendments, which the government is, planning on the judicial system was discussed in the parliament on 04th July and following are the salient points emerged in the discussion.

# Decentralizing the Court of appeal to five circuits throughout the country – the Southern, the Mid-land, the North- Western and Central, the North-Eastern and the western and sabaragamuwa circuits.

# An increase in the number of Appeal Court judges.

These amendments would result in a new leaf in the judicial system that would save the Sri Lankan citizens from much distress. -Department of Government Information
